March 28th, 2009 — solar
Our sister group, South Hobart Community, has taken a cue from Waterworks Valley Solar Project and is now offering a bulk purchase deal on both solar hot water and solar power (photovoltaic).
Now is the time to go solar power before federal rebates change mid-year. You can register an interest on their website.

My name is Luke O’Brien, and my partner Midori and I have lived in Waterworks community for the past 4 years.
We run a tour guiding business for Japanese visitors, and we are looking for families in Hobart that would be interested in hosting a student from Japan for short periods. The students would be here to study English and experience family-life in a different culture to their own.
The host family would receive a weekly payment in return for meals and a room for the duration of the stay, and as we live in the street we are close by if any issues pop up during the stay.
Anyone interested in registering can contact us at 6224 6618 or email us or leave a comment below.
Thanks very much, Luke & Midori at 1 / 182

March 25th, 2009 — community organising, energy saving
Here in the Waterworks valley we have a community dedicated to sustainable living.
Having dealt with a range of practical issues, such as energy audits of housing, solar hot water, community gardens and so forth, it has become evident that we could do useful work to understand on barriers that prevent people from reducing their footprint (responding to climate change).
To do this we are applying for a Climate Connect grant through the state climate change office. (Approved in April 2009)

The Harvest Fair will be displaying / selling preserves that have been made by residents of our valley.
So if you have any jams, pickles, bottled fruit etc that you would like the opportunity to share, please email me so that I can co-ordinate a ‘fruitful’ display. You are welcome to sell any excess you may have or to simply help us showcase the fruits of our labour.
