Agreements - from community meeting

On Tuesday 4th Nov community members met and made following agreements:

1. Using this website: Participation with this website has been partly limited because many people can’t memorise their user name and password. Members were asked if we should make the website ‘open access’. But meeting decided that this would expose us to junk entries and instead another reminder will be emailed out explaining simplicity of use.

2. Convening of meetings: Chris Harries will no longer act as de-facto convenor of the community group, each meeting to be facilitated by household hosting the meeting, or decided by each meeting.

3. Subgroups: Trish Moran proposed that the community set up specialised sub-groups, getting together people who have a particular interest with issues such as food growing, water resources etc. Meeting agreed this is a very good idea, but should be kept informal.

Trish offered to be a focal point for local gardening / food production issues. We already have people focussed on food buying (Glenda H and Michelle W), road safety (Janine B), roadkills (Seb M) and energy audits + website management (Chris H).

(Please report any roadkills you see to Seb to help improve our records.)

4. Green Precinct Project: Bob Vincent, Robert Rands, Stuart Godfrey and Chris Harries have drafted an expression-of-interest for major funding. (Click HERE for info).

Meeting responded positively and empowered group to finalise this and submit it – feedback welcome.

5. Transition Towns initiative: This book has elicited a strong response form community members. Dorka K spoke favourably about its ideas and its ability to empower communities. Meeting agreed to use community funds for Andy S to buy two more copies for circulation. Meeting also discussed need to expand our group to include local residents not already involved. Will invite whole street to end of year social event.

6. Other issues.
• A South Hobart Sustainability Group is now being set up and we will keep a watching brief on how best to relate to or join with this larger grouping.
• Meeting agreed to issue a bumper sticker (cost neutral) with words “Live Simply - so others may simply live”.
Amanda S has a large library of information about sustainability products gleaned from recent Melbourne sustainability festival. Please drop in if you would like to see.
Robert Rands mentioned a case that is currently before appeals tribunal relating to encroachment of a building development onto Sandy Bay rivulet.
• Michelle Williams will book a site at Waterworks Reserve for end-of-year street party.
• Next community gathering to be Wednesday 3rd December at Glenda Hosking’s - 136 W/W Rd.
