INFORMATION BELOW IS FROM HOBART COUNCIL'S BUSHCARE COORDINATOR

We just had a meeting to discuss the progress of the Waterworks Quarry Plan – which will go to Council in August.

Assuming approval by Council, the plan will then go on public display at the Hobart City Council Centre and a sign/notice will be erected on site.

After the community comment period the plan will return to Julie for final amendments.

Implementation will depend upon funding. I will recommend to Council that it be funded next year.

Being only a small project it is unlikely that it will be implemented in stages.

It may be that the Waterworks Valley Landcare Group can start work on some aspects of the plan in preparation for the landscaping.

Craig (Waterworks Valley Landcare Group) has given the following advice:

Please beware that Hobart Council has prepared this
draft plan – used for an on-site consultation meeting with the landcare group. Council was seeking some
comments on preliminary plans before completing full documentation of plans to go to the public for comment.

The landcare group has decided to advise Council that it
should finalise the draft plans they presented and
issue for public comment. The Landcare group is not entirely happy with the plans - in particular the lack of detail.

However, in light of the brief given to the landscape architect by the hcc bushcare unit, the plan generally
encompasses everything that was mentioned in the brief.

We feel that it would be better to provide feedback during public consultation in order to prevent the project being delayed any further. I think we all agree the preparation of these plans has taken far too long.

Therefore, the local residents will have plenty of time to have their say when the plans are eventually released (how long this will be is anyone's guess)

I also like Dorka's idea of the circular track, bigger kids can use it for roller blading or scooters. And yes a picnic table at the eastern end would be good, hopefully you could sit in the evening sun there.

Definitely, seeing the current fence line would help a lot. The main recreation area in the middle, that can be used to kick the ball, play volleyball...should stay open. That means I would prefer the picnic table rather to one end too. The pedestrian, service vehicle path shouldn't cross the recreation area either. I don't think there needs to be a actual path for vehicles either. A small circular asphalt path as in hill street park for young children to ride their bikes or tricycles on the other hand would be nice, I think (maybe around the recreation area) or where the service vehicle track is planned, but not coming in so far into the recreation area and having a connection along the vehicle barrier, so kids could ride their bikes in a circle.

Frankly, I would rather see the picnic table on the western end, and plans for another on the eastern end. I do not recall seeing so much area devoted to pedestrian and vehicles on the plan which we viewed when at the quarry, a month or so ago.

I'd be delighted to get a plan which showed the current fence line, as that would aid in interpreting the space. I'll inquire.

By the way, congratulations on a very well executed web site!
