The Hobart City Council very promptly replied to my request to find out hte latest. I was told that they had met DIER that day and would make a few changes to the plans based on DIER feedback and should be in a position to install them after the Chimney Pot Hill Rd closure is completed.

And the big piss-off (please pardon my language but it is a pet hate of mine to see ugly bombs on the side of the road ) was that the car had been there for 2.5 weeks when I rang the police to report it and they had not received any other calls. We thought it might have been stolen and dumped... But now our cheers of joy at its long awaited removal were slammed when we found the same nasty piece of work parked further down the street outside the flats. This is sitting nicely with its mate - an unlicenced (no number plates) white station wagon! Makes the trailer parked on the wrong side of the road with a cement mixer look tame... Just watch out going down the street in the dark, you never know what you might hit!

Ah Russel,

That's the 64 million dollar question. Actually HCC has done quite a thorough job of consulting with relevant communities. Fly in the ointment appears to be either Department of Infrastructure, Energy and Resources (DIER) and / or some appeals that have been made by a Ridgeway resident. The latest was an appeal to the anti-discrimination board.

It's one of those situations where a serious accident would prompt the system to act immediately but we don't feel that's good enough.

One idea for DIY traffic calming - leave lots of bombed out old cars parked along the road. The crook mentioned above gave me that idea watching everone having to slow down to pass his blown out wreck for a few weeks.

On a serious note though, does anyone know why the Hobart City Council is delaying the speed humps?

this near miss event did occur on a weekday- a friday. lucky for us we were doing post school activities not coming straight home... however one poor women almost had a head on with this idiot, not sure if she was a waterworks or ridgeway resident but i have no doubt that she would have been very shaken.
