*These vegetables are killed or badly damaged by frost. Last frost day in Hobart is around November 5th. Plantings made before this date are at risk. In most years there are no frosts this late and the gamble of an early sowing pays off, but please be aware of the risk.

This guide is indicative only. Use it entirely at your own risk, we do not accept responsibility for any losses. Developed from experience, seed packets, talking with commercial growers in Southern Tasmania and Steve Solomon’s Growing vegetables South of Australia.

Thanks for this Jonah – it will be really useful. Can you tell me where to find senposai seeds, by the way?

Hi Trish – New Gippsland Seeds have it, but talk to us at the next meeting as we have surplus of seed. http://www.newgipps.com.au/

One observation, I have much better success with growing broccoli over winter. Sow it in mid autumn and harvest it in September / October. Grows steadily all winter and no bugs eat it because there are none around in winter.

Also up here we have very dry sandstone soil so summer growing a leaf vegetables requires heaps of water whereas winter growing needs none.

hi thanks for that Jonah. Anybody knows, when to sow out kale? and where to get seedlings or seeds? Also I have surplus of leek and springonions and would need some garlic. Anyone wants to trade?
